Are You Making A Resolution or Commitment in 2012?

Are you ready to make 2012 the best year ever? I know I am! But first, to do so you really need to remove the word RESOLUTION out of your vocabulary. I know you have been using it for years but it is not s doing you any good to keep using it.

At this time of year everybody is making a New Year’s resolution. The crazy and unfortunate thing is that by around the third to fourth week of January, most of them are broken.

Sometimes the resolution or goal set is so audacious that it may be unattainable, or that the person making the “resolution” despite their best intentions, doesn’t have the ongoing motivation or patience to persevere long enough to see the results that they hope for.

Essentially this is all because that the mindset isn’t right from the start. As a society we are now so used to making and breaking resolutions that the whole concept of it is now quite meaningless.

So what’s not okay to break? A commitment statement!

When you make a commitment statement, not only you are commiting to yourself, you are committing to achieving results, to your own success.

Write it down and put it in a place where you and others can see it (i.e. On the fridge or back of the toilet door etc). This makes it REAL and tangible.

It enables you to take action with more confidence and certainty because you have COMMITTED to it! You are committed to the results you want, so you now you MUST achieve them. It takes the conversation that you have with yourself to a new level.

When you make your commitment statement, be sure to break it down into series of S.M.A.R.T. Goals - goals that are:

S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Attainable
R = Relevant
T = Timely

By setting S.M.A.R.T Goals as an integral part of your commitment statement, you are improving the likelihood of achieving them.

So for now, I want you to think about where you would like to be this time next year and describe what it would feel like to be in that place. Imagine the specific achievements that would have occurred since making your commitment statement to get there and how much different your life could be from where you are right now…

The only thing left to do now is for you to take action and make your commitment statement. Don’t hesitate or delay, do it right now…take action TODAY!
